Changing the face of signage worldwide!

We were  treated to a fantastic presentation this morning - Cluster LED's withing a fabricated Pan letter with opal fascia changing the color of the letter with great ease and seamlessness. With casinos being the forerunner in the use of neon and LED signs, this is sure to be a showstopper.

I can just visualize the Marine Parade in KwaZulu Natal's Durban beachfront in a few years OR the V&A Waterfront in our Mother City - Cape Town.

All in all, a great product. Sensational visuals and its sure to turn the signage industry on its heels! - @jeevaGovender #CoolAdvertz #Schweet

Chennai Express left me wanting much more. So I'm not getting on the train!

All the great hype around the latest Shah Rukh Khan bollywood movie Chennai Express came to a screeching halt for me after watching the movie this weekend. As an avid viewer of Bollymood and one of the worlds greatest SRK fan, I was left wanting. It seemed that the wait was more exciting than watching the actual movie itself.

A bit too much slapstick humour added with bits from some of the classics before, made it a mediocre experience for me. When i compare it to all the SRK movies before this, it makes me wonder........

The movie was without suspense. The cameras rolled non-stop from start to finish which was a bit much in the sense that it seemed to be a Chennai Express train ride. I looked forward to striking scenes of beautiful Mother India, which was sadly lacking.

I am guilty of expecting too much from this movie. Twitter played a role as well. My anticipation was immensely increased after reading tweets from the release in India. Hot on the heels of a great blockbuster like JabTak He Jaan! What gives?

Could it have something to do with the fact that Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment produced the film?
BF (best friend) says it was like a short story not quite unlike the ones we wrote in school! BF asks just how long did the script take to be completed?

As i watched the movie, i couldn't help but wonder just how the film rocketed into the history books smashing all box office records. Could it be that the hype was helped along by willing social media peeps actively punting on a variety of platforms? I know that YouTube had been quite favoured for the song "Chennai Express".

Myself, I'd rather not rate the movie as I may have expected much more from Chennai Express. So I'm not getting on the train!

Most Engaging is Sign Africa 2013 at Sandton Convention Centre

The latest machinery and print techniques on display showed us very quickly how to print and assemble a quaint "dolls-house". Here three visitors to the show marvel at the technique.

Well laid out with digital graphics on most aisles made one wonder if we were really to walk on these fabulous prints. The Mimaki stand was quite impressive! No wonder there are so many Mimaki's in the field out there. The high quality of design and visual expression by this years exhibitionists was displayed in the clever design concepts of the stands. Come on Lets face it! This is the premier sign show south of the equator.

Fabricated Perspex signs really made a huge impact as was the case at the Neon and Graphic Supplies stand. Richard and Lynn were on hand to welcome visitors and offer advice on certain products. the high quality finish on the brands displayed here was clear to see. Great Exhibition stand!

Here was a perfect example of a great vehicle wrap. Well at least a partial wrap. The eco-friendly ink gives a smooth and glistening finish to the car bonnet, I had to physically knock on it to make sure it wasn't wood. I can see interior designers so loving this.

And then there was the Avery Dennison Speed Wrap Challenge to see who could wrap a car door in record time. The comp gathered a big audience with co-workers and colleagues adding their jibes and prompts.I wish there was enough time to have hung around and watched until the finish, but my schedule was tight as there was so much more to see an delight in.

I was very impressed with Shereno Printers stand shown here on the left. The emphasis was on eco-friendly innovation. The furniture was a hit!

Made from recyclable corrugated cardboard, I could actually sit on the chairs comfortably. I can see new possibilities for interiors using this innovation.

whew! what a show it was, with parking a breeze, it's sure to be a local and international hit year after year!

The Beleaguered League's financial woes!

With the announcement by Gwede Mantashe of the woes that face the ANCYL, a few companies will be out of pocket and perhaps a few might even face closure. This too, coming from an appendage of the ruling party in our so-called mature democracy. One company alone is owed R15m, and this goes back to 2008 when JuJu came to power.
In retrospect, I remember the countless calls I made to the beleageured League’s national offices, punting my creative abilities in marketing and branding, only to be shunted from pillar to post. That was until the most recent call, about a year and a half ago, when someone there told me in no uncertain terms that they were broke!
I should be grateful that I never landed the “big one”, the “big fish”. The makhulu contract!
I could’ve really landed myself in the red!
